In spite of years of anti-tobacco education, as of 2010, more than 1/4 of all adults, and more than 1/3 of all young adults use tobacco in some form. E-cigarettes, which supply nicotine through inhaled water vapor rather than actual smoke, are the latest product for tobacco cessation. While addictiveness and long term effects of e-cigarettes are unknown, there is a "belief" they are safer to use than traditional products. This belief may lead to increased experimentation among young adults. Therefore the link between beliefs about e-cigarettes, experimentation, and smoking cessation, may help guide future anti-nicotine campaigns while this technology evolves.
*(Cole Family Dentistry does not support smoking of any nature and recommends cessation measures to help quit to be healthy.)
